Welcome to the first reveal of our latest project – Project Patricia. We are starting things off with the Home Office, a special space tucked off the front entrance of the home. Being it is one of the first rooms you see upon entering the home, we thought there was no better room to start our series with…
When our clients engaged Kayla Daniels Interiors, they sought to infuse their home with layers of warmth, personality and thoughtful details that would transform their spaces from functional into soulful. We embraced this vision by curating textures, patterns and bespoke furnishings and accessories that add character and a sense of refined comfort.
The office is a sophisticated interplay of natural materials and rich grounding tones. This combination creates a serene yet inspiring environment.
The original space included a built-in unit and a desk our clients already purchased. The built-in unit was getting a bit lost in the sea of white walls and we saw an opportunity to create a better layout for the space by changing the location of the desk. The rug our clients had was too small for the room, and this caused everything look a little out of place.
As we begin all projects, we started with the layout. Changing the orientation of the desk allowed us to establish multiple focal walls and incorporate many upholstered pieces to create zones, extra seating and of course, comfort.
We added softness to the tailored oak desk with custom upholstered ottomans in a creamy linen fabric while the woven desk chair gives a rugged, organic texture. We added custom trim detailing, painted the same colour as the cabinetry, around the entire room to act as a natural extension of the built-in, to balance the space and to add depth. The Grasscloth wall covering above the trim adds dimension and texture and completely envelopes the space in understated luxury, while a gallery of pressed botanicals behind the desk adds vintage charm.
A custom wool rug with a subtle stripe & herringbone pattern grounds the furniture and adds a cozy feel.
Design tip: the scale of rug you select is incredibly important to the overall look and feel of a space. Select a rug that will allow all the furniture pieces to sit on top of it, or at the very least have their front legs on the rug.

Reconfiguring the layout allowed us establish zones. Although the room itself doesn’t have an overly large footprint, we were able to create a working area, a sitting area by the window and a storage area. Not only did we enhance the functionality of the space, our clients now have multiple beautiful view points from when they are seated at the desk – out the window to their right, the beautifully styled cabinetry to their left and a clear view to the front foyer of the home.
We wanted to create a moment of comfort next to the window- a perfect spot to sit in the morning sun, sip your coffee and take a break between zoom calls. The custom roll arm chair in a beautiful mohair fabric adds softness while still being sophisticated. The mohair fabric add another layer into the space creating even more visual interest! Great design is all about the layers. The rich walnut stained turn legs and brass castors are the epitome of timeless design details. The brass task lamp illuminates the corner while the cast iron table is the perfect place to rest your book or your coffee.
